Plague and Crime Grip The North Hills

Plague!

The North Hills of Pittsburgh, where I live, is a relatively peaceful community. No real problems to speak of in terms of water main breaks or home invasions.

The time of relative peace is at an end. God has seen fit to smite this hamlet of suburban Pittsburgh.

First, the Next Great Plague has struck the North Hills School District:

“Two students in the North Hills School District have contracted methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, according to a letter posted on the district’s Web site… MRSA is a bacterial infection that commonly causes redness, boils, swelling or areas that are warm to the touch and painful.”

I guess living in the North Allegheny School District does have its advantages.

The North Hills is also in the midst of a crime spree where you have crazy-guy-who-wants-to-harm-himself-and-others hanging around McIntyre Square and the guy-who-preys-on-the-elderly and dumps them off at Toys R’ Us.

Finally, while I don’t have a link for this one… The BP on McKnight Road saw a guy walk in and go behind the counter to grab four boxes of smokes worth $200. No cash. Just the smokes. Rock on, man… Keep livin’ the dream.

At the rate we’re going, martial law is just around the corner!

Wow, I’m right in the ruckus.

I was surprised when the news didn’t mention crazy knife guy at all today. Although, they *did* leave a good chunk of air to allow listeners to convey their thoughts on the Cleveland “Brownies.”

There were enough dessert puns to keep me at bay for the next two years.

Oh and also? The big headliner on WTAE was something like “Two local schools warn of MRSA.” The two schools being North Hills Senior High and North Hills Junior High. I think that constitutes one school. They’re practically attached.

Where is that image from, btw? I’m oddly drawn to it.

Hah! You’re right. Ridiculous they would count that. I think I heard on the news there’s another school south of here that has a warning out.

I got the image from the University of Pennsylvania English Department (http://www.english.upenn.edu/Undergrad/Courses/Spring02/traffic/plague.html) I would have formally attributed it, but I wouldn’t know who to give it to!
