One… Hundred Millllllion Dollars!
Father Spoon pointed this story out via Twitter that Erie had received an anonymous gift of $100 million dollars to be dispersed to local Erie charities.
My first thought was, “Holy shit!”
My second thought was, “Who the hell does someone with $100 million know in Erie?”
My final thought rested on what a wonderful thing that was, that someone who either was from there or knows someone there (most definitely the former) has given something back to the city. I was very happy for my hometown.
What saddened me was seeing how Erie is described around the world with the city being characterized as everything from a “rust belt city” and “northeastern US town(?!?)” to “poor Erie city”. I wish it could be portrayed in a better way when the spotlight is upon it.
$100 million?! Holy shit!
You know, last week I was listening to the radio and there was an ad for Lake Erie College. I researched when I got home. I didnt know it existed.
But I dont have much room to talk, having attended Slippery Rock University.
Lake Erie College? As in LECOM? my sister is going there right now for pharmacy. 10 years ago that was known as the po man’s medical school. Now it’s actually reputable.
It does suck to see that the only press Erie gets is school shootings, another Wal Mart or a collar bomb. Oh and a casino, corrupt mayors… Sign coming into town should read “Welcome to Erie. Home of Woy, Roy, Spoon and other cool people who left.”
I read Erie blogs everyday and I think people are finally fed up with it’s image. At least the ones with blogs are.
cheers!
Hooray for Erie! I was just talking about this with my coworker this morning, and we were wondering who out there could (a) be from Erie (b) have $100 mil. to donate and (c) still be flying under the radar like that.
I’m wondering the same thing as Amy. How could someone with any sort of relationship with Erie manage to stay anonymous? It’s not exactly a major metropolitan area where it’s easy to lay low like that. Amazing.
My money is on Ann B. Davis.
Ah…Good ol’ Erie, the mistake on the lake. ;)
Ann B. Davis … the famous celeb lol
Doesn’t BonJovi’s grandmother lives in Erie?
