Top Five Favorite Retro Arcade Games

Here’s the first list for the month of March and NaBloPoMo, baby!

5. Gorf: I played this sit-down console at the Harbor Inn in Philipsburg, PA while my family would enjoy their breakfast on Sunday mornings before we went to Erie. The best part is when you hit the reactor in the flagship.

4. Sinistar: “Beware, I live!” The voice of Sinistar is probably the most memorable and best part of the game, as it taunts you that it is coming and screams as it attacks you. As a young kid, it’s actually is a little scary to play.

3. Donkey Kong Jr.: Skyway Tavern was where I put some serious miles on this game, and I’ll never forget when I finished the fourth board for the first time.

2. Pac Man: Perkins Restaurant on 8th Street in Erie with french fries and gravy. Quarter after quarter, I got to the key board once in the early 80’s.

1. Galaga: Level 32, baby.

I used to ROCK Galaga at Nunzi’s on E. 38th ST

    Funky Dung:

I have the Atari 7800 version of Galaga and the system to play it on. Want them?

    Uncle Crappy:

I held the high score on Defender machine at the five star Stop ‘n Go for almost a year, playing only during junior high school lunch breaks. During the same period, I ate an estimated 237 microwave burritos.

    spoon: Word.

FD: I actually have the original arcade ROMs and an emulator (MAME) which allows me to play them on a PC. So if I feel the nostalgia kick in, I can just fire that up. Nothing beats a standup cabinet though, which if I’m ever independently wealthy I’ll be getting one of this.

UC: Incredible accomplishment(s)! Defender was one game I could really never get good at. Often overcompensated the hell out of the steering.

    Jim:

I love Galaga, but I’m a fucking marvel at Dig Dug.
