Eyes Without a Face

With the new parental responsiblities and the cosmic shift in sleep schedules, I’ve had ample time to enjoy The Games of the XXIX Olympiad coming from Beijing. I say every year that I won’t really watch the games but I always end up getting sucked in.

I thought a lot as I held the baby at 3:00 about 1996 when myself and my closest friends went to Atlanta for the XXVI Olympiad. We attended five events, one of which was in far-flung Birmingham, Alabama for soccer (USA vs. Argentina). All the while, when we weren’t riding the Marta train and having a kick ass time… we listened to Eyes Without a Face. Over and over. Non-stop. Without reprieve.

You’d have to understand the man behind the wheel to understand how this came to pass. But, for the Ratt, this was the song and soundtrack for being in Atlanta. At first, it seemed ridiculous. We soon accepted it as fact and I’m so glad we did because now, when I hear that song, I think of us being there for history.

Don’t understand? It’s OK. You’d have to have been there. So, this post is for my boys and that one great road trip. We’ll always have the Waffle House.

Obviously I don’t fully understand, but I do have those experiences as well.

Good timing on the new baby! Nothing like Olympics to make it a little more okay to be awake at all hours of the night.

It just started to make sense.

But it’s an hour later than that.
