This post is the start of a non-regular series of posts under the category of “Crusade”. Not a crusade in the religious sense of course, but more in the spirit of this definition offered by dictionary.com:
Crusade: A vigorous concerted movement for a cause or against an abuse.
The recent hurricane disaster on the Gulf Coast exposed ill-preparedness at all levels of government. That combined with a story on ABC News tonight which talked about three disaster scenarios (two of which are definitely applicable here in the City of Pittsburgh): Avian Flu Pandemic, Massive Earthquake, and Nuclear Terror Attack. Even a hurricane, as evidenced by Ivan last year, is a potential threat on a massive scale to our area.
So Grabass undertakes a mission to find out more information about what Pittsburgh’s readiness is to any and all of these disaster scenarios. While I’m aware we’ve had massive drills down @ Heinz Field and PNC Park, there’s still a lot I would like to learn about what we should do in the event of an emergency… and hopefully share the knowledge I learn with others.
Anyone reading and wants to participate can feel free to do so via comments or e-mails to me.
This is not an accusation that anything is not being done or that there’s a lack of planning. I simply want to learn more about what our city and county officials have done to date. I reserve the right for any accusations, criticisms, or suggestions that may come later…!
